2024/4/24 Passover—A Time to Be Set Free

Ron Sawka Ministries

April 24, 2024; Nisan 16, 5784

“And when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the Lord will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to come into your houses to strike you” (Exod. 12:23, emphasis added).

“Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, since you truly are unleavened. For indeed Christ, our Passover, was sacrificed for us” (1 Cor. 5:7).

“And it happened on the next day that the distressing spirit from God came upon Saul” (1 Sam. 18:10).

Passover—A Time to Be Set Free

One of the highlights of Nissan, the first Hebrew month, is the week of Passover (April 22–29), and one of the main lessons is freedom and deliverance. The first Passover resulted in an entire nation being set free overnight. That first Passover also demonstrated the power of the blood. Wherever the Lord saw that the people had responded in faith and painted the blood of the Passover lamb on their lintels and door posts, He would “pass over” and not allow the destroyer to enter and strike. Today, we believe in Jesus. He is our Passover lamb. His blood covers the doorposts of our hearts and lives. This means we are free from eternal judgment. Likewise in our earthly lives, destroying demons are not allowed access because we are covered by the blood of Jesus.

On the other hand, as Christians we very well still may have struggles with demonic oppression even though our lives are covered by the blood of Jesus. If so, the reasons could be because of doors we ourselves have opened. We open these doors unwittingly by giving in to wrong/evil thoughts such as envy, jealousy, fear, and feelings of inferiority (see Galatians 5:16–19). Whenever we accept and agree with these thoughts, it is very likely that demons will enter in through that self-opened door and greatly exacerbate the problem. Then, what started as a small spark of envy can soon become a raging, destroying fire. In 1 Samel 18:7–10, an incident from King Saul’s life illustrates this:

Saul and his men returned from battle and were greeted by people exulting in their victory. They rejoiced and sang about Saul slaying his “thousands,” but really got excited over the young and increasingly popular David. They sang about David killing his “ten thousands” (18:7).

Instead of laughing at the overexuberance of the celebrating crowds, King Saul was immediately struck with feelings of insecurity, inferiority, and jealousy. He lost his joy as gloom set in. Here is where Saul had to make a choice—he should have chosen faith and humility. He should have said, “Lord, thank You for this young warrior, David. And frankly, Lord, I’m a bit worried. But Lord, I don’t need to worry because You are the one in charge, and I know You will always do what is best and what is right. I don’t have to worry about anything because all things are in Your hands.”

But Saul didn’t make the right choice. Instead, he agreed with the feelings/thoughts of insecurity and jealousy. Those thoughts grew and increased. The scriptures say the very next day the distressing spirit (demon) came. God allowed it to enter because Saul was in full agreement with it.

What an important lesson for us. We have to immediately deal with wrong thoughts. As Paul says, “Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5, emphasis added). These thoughts are like leaven (yeast), which is tiny but can grow quickly. This is why Passover occurs during the weeklong Feast of Unleavened Bread. The Israelites were to diligently rid their homes of any leaven (see Exodus 12:15,19). For us today, the meaning is clear. Don’t allow any selfishness or any other thoughts of the flesh to be allowed to rise up and remain.

Let us be believers who continually ask the Lord to help us identify and then forcefully say “no”—to repent and slam the door shut on those wrong thoughts. The Lord will cleanse us and free us. However, if you feel tormented and are unable to stop the bombardment of negative thoughts, then ask the Lord to deliver you. A few steps are as follows:

-Repent and you will immediately be cleansed by the blood of Jesus.
-Replace it with the truth that God is in charge and He will always do what is best for you.
-Command any demon connected to that wrong thought to immediately leave.
-Let the peace and presence of God fill you.

Let this Passover be a time of deliverance and breakthrough.

Thanks for praying.

Ron and Teddy

Passover—A Time of Freedom

Nissan—The First Hebrew Month of 5784 April 9–May 8, 2024

One of the highlights of this month of Nissan is Passover and the weeklong feast of unleavened bread (April 22–29). Passover is designed to help us enter into a richer experience of our great salvation in Jesus. We do this by examining the first Passover. Note the following things:

-Deliverance. Israel was set free from Egypt. We need to remember and thank the Lord for where we came from. Peter was delivered from prison during Passover week (see Acts 12). Expect a new level of deliverance.

-A time of crossing over (first the Red Sea in Exodus 14, and then the Jordan River in Joshua 4–5). I believe this year we’ll cross over into a harvest like something the church has never seen before.

-Reproach is being rolled away (see Joshua 5:9). Any old sense of failure that is still a part of our identities that is allowed to remain will hinder us. Jesus wants to roll that off of us. Remember, praise is the key. As you praise Him, old reproaches will roll off and away.

-New provision (see Exodus 12:35–36; Joshua 5:10–12). Each Passover is a time when the Lord wants to bless us with new provision. Look for it. Expect it!
