“Now David was greatly distressed, for the people spoke of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and his daughters. But David strengthened himself in the Lord his God” (1 Sam. 30:6).
Yielding for Fruit and for Refreshing
I want to share about yielding to the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit desires to constantly lead us, and He will if we yield to Him. The more we yield, the more fruitful we will be. We know unexpected things happen in our lives. Don’t get frustrated or upset. Instead, say, “Holy Spirit, you are here, I yield to you.” This yielding will result in fruitfulness.
In John 4, Jesus was seated at the well. He was thirsty and didn’t have a vessel for obtaining water. It was noon—in the heat of the day—and a woman came to draw water. The Holy Spirit nudged Jesus to ask her for a drink, which was unusual because she was both a Samaritan and a woman. But Jesus followed the leading of the Holy Spirit and asked her. She ended up becoming a believer, and then through her the entire village also believed. We must continually yield to the Holy Spirit, especially during unexpected times and events. The more we yield, the more fruitful we become.
There is another aspect of yielding when you feel you are in trouble or have failed. Immediately yield to the Holy Spirit and talk to Jesus. In 1 Samuel 30, David was very discouraged because of a major failure at the city of Ziklag. His men were even talking about killing him. But it says, “David strengthened himself in the Lord” (1 Sam. 30:6). That means he immediately started talking to God—seeking His help. He talked to God and was strengthened. That great failure turned into a tremendous victory. When you fail—and we all fail at times—immediately go to the Lord. Yield to the Holy Spirit and start talking to Him. Don’t let pride take over. Immediately yield to the Holy Spirit and start communicating with Him.
Yielding will refresh you and will bring forth great fruit.
