About Activating the Gift of Healing
Nearly every Christian reading this update agrees with the idea that we are supposed to heal the sick. We know that Jesus is healer, and has provided for healing for us by his sacrifice on the cross. We also know that one of His commands to us is to minister healing to the sick people we know, just like Jesus and the early church did.
We know this and believe it. Furthermore, most believers seriously—if not fervently—seek to be ministers of healing. Naturally, we hope to improve in the future, but most of us probably agree our current success rate in healing isn’t what it should be. In fact, there may be some who won’t even read this article because you’ve tried and tried but just haven’t seen any healing.
About 20–30 years ago, this same scenario played out with regard to prophesying. We Christians knew about prophesy and believed in it. We were delighted to learn that every believer, not just a privileged few, should prophesy. After all, Paul said, “Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy” (1 Cor. 14:1). And a few verses later he said, “I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied” (14:5). The only question was “how to.” Yes, we wanted to prophesy, but how did we do it?
Most of us had no clue. Did we need more faith? More anointing? Even those of us who were able to prophesy occasionally didn’t have a clear understanding of how to release this gift. We felt if the presence of the Holy Spirit was strong—if God “showed up”—then we could prophesy. If not, then there wasn’t any prophecy—no moving of spiritual gifts.
But then God raised up Bill Hamon, an emerging prophet, and gave him understanding about prophetic activation. (Bill Hamon founded Christian International, and because of his understanding of prophetic revelation is widely regarded as the “father” of the prophetic movement.) He learned the simple steps/actions of faith whereby Christians could easily learn to hear the voice of God and prophesy. My wife and I learned this from him and Christian International. It was amazing. We learned the steps, took them back to our church in Sano, Japan, and immediately began to activate every believer (more details may be found in my book Activated to Prophesy—available in English, Japanese, Chinese, and Russian). Their training method was very effective. Everyone who took the seminar ended up being able to prophesy. It works in Japan, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, Russia… Everywhere we go, we can activate prophecy.
We can also activate gifts of healing.
As I wrote above, every Christian longs to be used of God to heal the sick and to minister God’s power to those who need breakthrough. Just like it was with prophecy, there was no question whether or not we should—the only question was “how to.” The answer again is activation. Activation is different than just learning about healing and faith. Rather, it is actions and steps that result in that gift becoming active. Just like activation puts the gift of prophecy into motion in people’s lives, activation will also put the gifts of healing into motion.
