Declaring and Reaffirming Your Godly Identity and Destiny

The feast of Hannukah (Dec. 10–18) is mentioned once in the Bible and is called the Feast of Dedication. John 10:22 states, “Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem and it was winter.” The more I studied this, the more I came to see the Lord wants us to use this time to reexamine our calling and destiny and rededicate our lives to Him.

After the Israelites rose up and drove out the Syrian-Greek oppressors in the second century BC, they cleansed and rededicated the temple. Leading up to this, the pagan king Antiochus IV had violently persecuted the Jews, desecrated the temple, and had tried to eradicate their faith. By rededicating the temple, they gave a resounding “no” to the attempts to replace their godly identity with a Greek worldview that didn’t acknowledge God. The act of rededicating the temple was a declaration that they were the Lord’s people and their identity was in Him.

As mentioned, John 10:22 is the only biblical passage that refers to Hanukkah. Immediately following, Jesus clearly declares His purpose and mission and reaffirms His identity. In John 10 the Jewish leaders demanded of Jesus, “If You are the Christ, tell us plainly” (24). Jesus knew they had no intention of believing Him, but He still powerfully stated the following things:

First, “The works that I do in My Father’s name bear witness of me” (25). Second, “I give [my sheep] eternal life, and … neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” (28). Third, “I and my Father are one” (30).

That is so powerful. In the face of strong opposition, He declared His identity (i.e., one with the Father) and His calling—to do works in His Father’s name, and to give eternal life to those who believe Him.

As I read this passage and studied the history of Hanukkah, I felt the Lord speaking a “now word” to all of us. Whether it is Hanukkah or Christmas, this should be a time of reaffirming and declaring the following things:

Our identity. “We belong to You, Lord. You have chosen us as Your special people.”

Our purpose. “We carry Your glory. Wherever we go, we choose to speak words that bring grace, and do everything as unto You.”

Dedication. “We dedicate ourselves, our families, our homes, our businesses, our cities, and our nations to You.”

Be sure to verbally speak these things out. Something powerful is released in us, as well as on our behalf, whenever we declare God’s truths.

Be blessed! Thanks so much for praying!

One Month to Go: Believe His Prophets and You Shall Prosper! Perhaps the biggest issue is calling and destiny. The confusion and turmoil we are seeing in the nations has to do with Satan trying to get us—both personally and nationally—out of the destiny God has for us. We must keep our eyes on the Lord and the “now word” (often prophetic) that He has spoken, and He will bring us through. Again, remember 2 Chronicles 20:20, which states, “Believe in the Lord your God, and you shall be established; believe His prophets, and you shall prosper.”

Time to Mature: Put On the Crown and Rule with Him

Tevet: The Tenth Month of Hebrew Year 5781 (Dec. 16, 2020–Jan 13, 2021)

The word “church” comes from ekklesia, a secular term fully understood in Jesus’s day. We are God’s ruling body in our cities and the marketplace (e.g., business, government, education). God wants us to mature quickly and rule with Him. Growth does not always have to be a long, slow process. We can leap ahead!
