“He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; he triumphed over them in him” (Col. 2:15, CBS).
“Jesus came near and said to them, ‘All authority has been given to me in heaven and on earth’” (Matt. 28:18, CBS).
“Summoning his twelve disciples, he gave them authority over unclean spirits, to drive them out and to heal every disease and sickness” (Matt. 10:1, CBS).
Far Flung Tin Can—“Explosions” for the Lord!
In the last update, I wrote that a large group of missionaries from Far Flung Tin Can was visiting Japan for a week. Eighty-five missionaries came from around the world. They were based out of Sano, and from there split into smaller groups and went to a number of places. They know the Lord leads them to descend on a chosen nation for a short time. To me, this is more evidence that God’s eyes are on Japan and He is moving in this nation. It seems to me God sent them to release “explosions” of His power. These “explosions” shake the old and resistant foundations and release the Holy Spirit to work more freely. I look forward to hearing the testimonies when I get back from Korea next week.
Use the Authority!
Last week I wrote on using the authority the Jesus gave to us, and then taught about it in greater detail at our Apostolic Training Center (Chinese). I was struck by Colossians 2:15, which states, “Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” By His death and resurrection, Jesus openly and publicly triumphed over Satan and all demons.
Just think what that means. All power and authority were stripped from Satan and the demons. This was done publicly and openly. That means the whole spiritual realm saw it and understood it. The angels saw it. All the demons saw it. They all knew instantly and exactly what it meant. All authority was now in Jesus’s hands, and they further knew He was making it available for Christians to use.
So the spiritual realm has known this since the cross and Jesus’s resurrection. All of creation has also knows this. Romans 8:19 reads, “For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.” That means authority over nature, and over the body and illness. So all of the spiritual realm and all of creation know that we have authority—humanity alone doesn’t really understand that.
You could easily imagine demons talking to each other and saying something like, “Wow, those Christians really are ignorant. Don’t they know they have complete authority over us to drive us out? Even the angels might be having conversations like, “Why don’t the Christians use their authority over addictions, over problems in nature, and over illness and disease?”
As we approach Passover and Easter, which celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus, let it be a time of crossing over into fuller understanding and use of the authority that Jesus won for us on the cross.
