House on Fire? God Uses Unusual Means to Gain our Attention
Most of us know that God often uses simple and common things to attract our attention. This is one of the meanings when Paul said, “However, the spiritual is not first, but the natural, and afterward the spiritual” (1 Cor. 15:46). This is exactly the process the Lord used when He called Moses. First was the natural—Moses noticed a burning bush (see Exodus 3). Perhaps he saw it over several days or on several different occasions. Finally it dawned on him that it wasn’t completely natural—that there was something unusual going on—because that bush just kept on burning. So Moses decided to look more carefully. When he did, it was then that God spoke and gave Moses his life’s calling and assignment. We read, “So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, ‘Moses, Moses!’ And he said, ‘Here I am’” (Exod. 3:4).
Notice the process. God used a common thing, that burning bush, and waited for Moses to notice that it wasn’t entirely common—that there was something unusual or supernatural about it. Once God had Moses’s full attention, then He spoke and revealed what He wanted Moses to know.
Something like this happened to me a few years ago, and then once again in these past two months. In late 2018–early 2019, I found myself worrying about my house catching fire. Almost every night when I went to bed my thoughts were about fire. Was the wiring okay? Before going to sleep, I’d intend to call the electricians the next day. This went on for a few months until I began talking with members of our Japanese Arise 5 network about fusing with Catch the Fire (CTF).*
I told them of prophecies I had received pointing to a fusing of our ministry with CTF, and then another prophecy stating God was now installing “Plan B,” which was going to be bigger, better, and faster than “Plan A” (the Arise 5 network/ministry which we launched in 2010). When I told them we were going to merge with an organization called “Catch the Fire,” they began sharing how they too had smelled fires burning in their homes or had wondered if the stove had been left on by mistake. For some reason, they all seemed to know what I didn’t—that these were confirmations from the Lord that we should join CTF.
What they shared helped me understand that it had been the Lord trying to get my attention all along; that He was trying to signal confirmation that it was His will for us to merge with CTF. We entered the fusing process in 2020. From then on, I hadn’t had thoughts about our house catching fire.
Online Fire Conferences—As you know, this past March I was led to host an online conference to receive and release God’s fire. I asked the global heads of CTF, Duncan and Kate Smith, to help us, and it was amazing. Both before and after, I started receiving prophetic words that from now on releasing God’s fire would be a major focus for me, and that this would be bigger and more significant than I thought. Thus, in May we held a second conference, “God’s River of Fire,” and again the fire of the Holy Spirit was poured out.
Interestingly, it was around the time of that second conference that thoughts about my house catching fire began to return. Even as we made plans for our third conference (this July 31), those thoughts would rise up. Why? I was already committed to the “fire of God.” I had already committed to holding this third conference. I also realized that probably I would have to do many more. If thoughts of my house catching fire are the Lord’s way of getting my attention and I am already doing the fire conferences, what does He want to show me? What was I not seeing?
I think I have the answer. This past Sunday, July 18, we held a pre-conference meeting. Around thirty of our leaders from nations in Asia gathered on Zoom and prophesied over the July 31 conference. (These pre-conference meetings are primarily intercessory—once we know how God sees the conference and what He wants to do through it, then we can align ourselves with Him and pray.)
Many important words were released concerning the July 31 conference. A few are as follows:
Don’t assume you know what to expect. God wants to do something completely different.
God wants us to seek His new fire. In order to receive it, we have to step out from the ashes of the previous.
His fire will take us into His holiness.
God is spreading His fire to all nations, and it will be unstoppable.
God’s fire is being released to burn away the occult blanket that blinds the eyes of people in the nations.
Many who have been “frozen” will be unthawed and will burn with zeal for the Lord.
It will be like a tidal wave of “lions” for the Lord.
The fire will connect with God’s apostolic and prophetic movements for great harvest.
The July 18 pre-conference meeting may be seen in entirety on my Facebook page.
I believe the Lord has my full attention. I hope He has all of our attentions. I know He wants to do something far beyond what I have allowed myself to think. I know the church around the world is standing on the verge of a great move of God.
I am really looking forward to July 31. Please pray for us, and if possible, please join.
Thanks for praying and standing with us for greater harvest than ever before!

*Catch the Fire is a worldwide network of churches and ministries that grew out of the Toronto Airport Church Renewal, led by John and Carol Arnott. This mighty outpouring of the Holy Spirit with remarkable signs and wonders started in 1994. Over the course of a few years, several million came to receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. Some well-known ministries/ministers impacted included Bill Johnson of Bethel Church, Heidi Baker of Iris ministries, and Nicky Gumbel of Alpha Course. Catch the Fire grew out of that renewal and provided a place for countless ministries and churches to connect and work together for great harvest. It is headed by Duncan and Kate Smith. Their worldwide headquarters are now in Raleigh, North Carolina.
